 Bridgeton Historic Commission

 

The Historic Commission consists of five members appointed by the Mayor.  The board's responsibilities include publishing the Bridgeton National Register Historic District Map, hearing applications for any alteration, addition, or demolition that affects any structure or landmark within the historic district, and advising municipal agencies regarding goals and techniques of historic preservation.  A complete listing of the Commission's powers & duties may be found in the City Code Chapter 370, Article VI, § 370-29.

Owners of any property in the Bridgeton National Register Historic District must receive a Certificate of Appropriateness from the City's Historic District Officer prior to making any additions, alterations, or changes to the exterior of their property.  This includes, but is not limited to, changes to existing paint color or demolition of any improved structure.  Property owners are encouraged to obtain a copy of the Historic District Guidelines from the Administrative Officer located in the office of Development & Planning, 50 E. Broad St (451-3407), or from the Construction Office, City Hall Annex, 2nd floor.  Structures in the Historic District are identified by street name and number in this document.

 

Historic Commission meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month (@7:00pm) unless affected by holidays or lack of business.  Please check the Home page Meetings Calendar for actual meeting dates.
