 Bridgeton's Master Plan

What is a Master Plan?
A Master Plan is document that describes the basic guide for community development.  It projects the municipality's long-range development goals and policies.  A Master Plan consists of a land use statement, development proposals with maps, diagrams, and text, appendices, and may be comprised of the following elements (plans) - not all elements are required:

Land Use

Utility Service

Housing

Conservation

Transportation

Farmland Preservation

Recreation

Historic Preservation

Economic

Community Development

Recycling

Capital Improvements

Who is Responsible for the Master Plan?
The Planning Board is responsible to make, adopt, and amend the Master Plan [§370-91.F(1)(a)].  New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law requires that the "...governing body shall, at least every six years, provide for a general reexamination of its master plan and development regulations..." [40:55D-89].

Bridgeton's Master Plan
Bridgeton's Master Plan was initially prepared in October 1976, amended in July 1980, and reexamined in July 1982.  Copies of the Master Plan are available from the City Clerk (copying fee charges apply), or it may be examined in the Clerk's Office at no charge.

At the Board's October 25, 2006 meeting, a resolution to prepare a Request for Proposals (RFP) was approved with the goal to have a new Master Plan completed, and Board approved, by the end of 2007.
