Spring events:

Girls Softball League – Girls ages 9-12 years old.  Enrolling now for a late spring season.

 

Start Smart Sports Development Program: Prepares children (ages 3 – 5) for organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Focuses on a variety of general skills including: throwing, catching, kicking, and batting. Gives parents and children the opportunity to work one – on – one and spend quality time together. Teaches children motor skill tasks that gradually build confidence, while children have FUN at the same time.

 

Start Smart Baseball:  Spring 2008 Prepares children (ages 3 – 5) for organized tee ball, baseball, and softball in a FUN, non-threatening environment. This program allows children the opportunity to work one – on – one with a parent. Teaches children a variety of baseball skills including: throwing, catching, batting and running/ agility, offers exercises that become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and children show improvement.

 

 

May:

 

Kid’s Fest – May 3rd, 2008 10 am - 2pm. The official Spring/Summer season kick-off event at the Cohanzick Zoo. Kid’s Fest 2007 served over 2,700 people!
This annual event is admission free and provides a welcoming environment for families in our surrounding area.
Kid’s Fest offers a variety of cost free entertainment throughout the day.

 

“We’ve Got Talent” Competition Auditions – May 17th & 18th, Time & location TBA

This 2nd Annual music competition will be accepting entry forms until May 10th
The finalists in the competition will play at the Fourth of July Festival, with the winners being decided by public casting votes.

 

 

Good Council Homes Walk – A- Thon – May 17th 9 am until Noon at the Cohanzick Zoo.

 

July:

 

Fourth of July Festivities – July 4th, 2008. Fun for the whole family, the annual Fourth of July festivities take place at Alden Field and offer a variety of free entertainment throughout the day and evening including rides!  Beginning with the horseshoe tournament at 2pm and ending with fireworks at 9pm, this event is fun for all ages.

 

Theater in the Park – July 9th, 16th, and 23rdh at 7pm. Held at Sunset Lake on Wednesdays these free family oriented shows are offered by a variety of performers. (Rain date July 30th).

 

Out to Lunch Program – July 10th, 17th, and 24h 12pm. Held on Fridays at the Cohanzick Zoo this program features a variety of performers. This is a great event for entire families to enjoy together.

 

Sunday Night Concerts – July 13th, 20th, 27th and August 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th at 7pm. Held at the Bridgeton Riverfront on Sundays, the concerts feature a wide variety of music and performers. The concerts provide a free family friendly environment that the whole family can enjoy.

Zoo Camp –July 7th through the 21st. Six sessions.  Open registration begins April 21st.  The camp is a great way for children from ages 5 through 12 to learn about animals and participate in fun activities and crafts.

 

August:

 

Movie Nights – Saturday August 2nd and Saturday August 16th.   What a great night out for the family. Bring a blanket or a chair to lounge at the Donald Rainear Amphitheater to watch a PG rated movie.  Beverages, popcorn and other snacks will be available for purchase.

 

Going Green – Saturday August 23rdat the Cohanzick Zoo.  This event is focused on recycling, environmental friendly awareness, and the unveiling of the new signage made from recycled materials for the Cohanzick Zoo, made possible from the CCIA grant. This event will be held at the Cohanzick Zoo.

 

October:

 

OctoberFest – October 15th, 2008. October Fest is open to all city senior citizens.

 

Boo at the Zoo – October 25th, 2008 11-2pm. Held at the Cohanzick Zoo for the past 11 years this free family oriented event draws approximately 2,000 local residents annually. Face painting, pumpkin decorating, and trick-or-treating are among the many activities offered at this event.

 

Fright Night – October 25th, 2008 7pm. Held at the Cohanzick Zoo, this event offers a frightfully good time for adults and older children. Visitors walk through the zoo which has been decorated with props and haunted by volunteers especially for this event.

 

December:

 

Festival of Lights – December 12th, 5:00 - 8:00 pm & December 13th   4:00 – 8:00 pm.  A wonderful community event to kick off the holiday season, the 2nd annual Festival of Lights will be held at Sunset Lake in the Bridgeton City Park. Music, food and vendors are among the entertainment offered to visitors as they stroll among the donor decorated trees and enjoy the holiday season.

Christmas Historic House Tour – December 6th, 2008, 4pm. The annual Christmas Historic House Tour features both private homes and public buildings decorated for the holiday season.
