The Division of Solid Waste Utility supervises the collection of the City's solid waste and maintains a compost site.
City Code §300 specifies the rules, regulations, and fees for the collection of garbage, recyclables, leaves, and brush.

35-Gallon Trash Container Criteria
 Effective 5/16/07.


Trash Collection Rules

  •  All Residents MUST use a 96 (or 35)-gallon container for household trash (no other containers are acceptable)
  •  Bulk trash, White Goods, & tires MUST have a $3 Bulk-Trash sticker attached.
  •  Additional 96-gallon containers may be obtained by calling 455-3230 (x279) - Households with additional 96-gallon containers will incur additional quarterly trash collection fees.

 Trash Container / Receptacle Placement (ord: 06-14):

1) May NOT be placed at the gutter line prior to 4:00 pm on the day preceding the day of trash collection, but

2) Must be placed at the gutter line prior to 6:00 am on the day of collection.

3) Must be removed from the gutter line no later than 6:00 am of the day AFTER trash collection. When one of the following holidays falls on (or prior to) your normal collection day, your trash will be picked up one day later than usual:

  • Christmas
  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving

At no time should Hazardous Waste be placed in with your household trash, or recyclables.  These items receive special handling, and are processed under separate Cumberland Country Improvement Authority (CCIA) collection programs.  The details of these programs may be found by clicking on the following item names: Batteries, Oil & Antifreeze, Mercury Lamps.

Most other types of Household Hazardous waste can be properly disposed of during one of the 3 annual CCIA Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Disposal Days (Gasoline, Kerosene, Herbicides, Pesticides, Oils, Antifreeze, Oil-Based Paint, Thinners, Electronics, Cell Phones, etc.

Convenience Center - Available to City residents for Saturday collection of specific types of solid waste.

Bulk-Trash Stickers

  • Cost $3 each
  • May be purchased in person at the Tax Collector's Office [455-3230, ext. 211],
     or at the Bridgeton Public Library (open Tues-Thurs until 8:00pm, also open Sat.)

  • May be purchased by mailing your payment in check form, with  a SASE,
    to the City Hall Annex, Attn: Tax Office.
     
    Your stickers will be mailed back to you.

Items with stipulations

  • - Wood, Pipe, &, Rugs: No longer than 4 feet in length, must be tied together, and no bundle may exceed 50 pounds.
  • - Items NOT Collectable: Gas tanks, batteries, fire extinguishers or any auto parts.
  • - Containers: All household trash must be contained in trash bags or trash cans not to exceed 33-gallon size.
  • - When & Where: Containers must be placed at the curb in front of your property and will be picked up weekly.

Typical Trash Related Violations (Summons)

  • Mixing household trash with recyclables.
  • Placing plastic trash liners in red recyclable containers.
  • Not affixing a Bulk-Trash sticker to each bulk trash item left out for collection.
  • Loose trash on property.
  • Trash outside of the 96-gallon, or red recyclable, containers.
  • Trash is placed out before, or empty containers remain at curbside after, the allowable time.
  • White goods, or tires, left out on an unscheduled day.

Kid’s Fest

The official Spring/Summer season
kick-off event at the Cohanzick Zoo. Kid’s Fest 2007 served over 2,700 people! This annual event is Admission free and provides a welcoming environment for families in our surrounding area. Kid’s Fest offers a variety of cost free entertainment throughout the day.

Competition Auditions

This 2nd Annual music competition will be accepting entry forms until May 10th.  The finalists in the competition will play at the Fourth of July Festival, with the winners being decided by public casting votes.
