Mission
As the communities' chief law enforcement agency, the City of Bridgeton Police Department is dedicated to the equitable and impartial enforcement of the laws, statutes, and ordinances, enacted to protect life and property, while also preserving and maintaining the public peace. In carrying out their mission to protect and serve, the Bridgeton Police do so respecting constitutional rights, human dignity and community values.
The Bridgeton Police Department is committed to the enhancement of community-police partnerships; focused on assisting members of the community in identifying and resolving problems in an effort to improve quality of life community-wide. Collectively and individually, the department is committed to providing the highest quality law enforcement service possible, while continuously striving to maintain the highest standards of their profession.
Description
At peak manpower, department operates with sixty-five (67) full-time officers, and up to four (4) Class II officers, one (1) animal control officer, seven (7) telecommunications officers and a civilian staff of five (5). The department is comprised of various bureaus including Patrol, Criminal Investigation, Internal Affairs and Administrative. The backbone of the department is the Patrol Bureau consists of four (4) squads supervised by a Lieutenant and Sergeant per-squad. The department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau is commanded by a Lieutenant and Sergeant along with the Juvenile Unit supervised by a Sergeant that incorporates the department’s Police Athletic League (PAL). The Administrative Bureau/Special Service Unit is commanded by a Lieutenant and Sergeant and the Internal Affairs Bureau comprised of a Sergeant and Detective falls under the command of the Chief of Police.
Capt. James Battavio serves as the department's Executive Officer in command of all bureaus and second-in-command under Chief of Police Michael A. Gaimari Sr. Both were promoted to their respective positions in May 2015.
The department’s headquarters and base of operations is located at 330 Fayette St.
General Information
The Bridgeton Police Department welcomes the opportunity to interact with the community as part of its "Building Community Partnerships" initiative. Whether it is a question, tip, concern, compliment or complaint, the department wants to give our residents the opportunity to be heard.
In 2020 the department embarked on a community-friendly partnership initiating an information system through Online Policing Solution (OPS), one of the first along with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, to go on line in the country. The venture not only provides for law enforcement interaction and information exchange throughout the county and state, but features a thorough community interactive platform for the public, including:
